Music and Us

 Hello again!!  From my last vlog, I was inspired to look into some other countries where music may differ from what I am used to. I have been dying to look more into Egypt and Japan. Egypt is located in Northeast Africa, and Japan is located in East Asia. I will also be looking into Poland and Sweden, which are both located in Europe.  First, I would love to start off with Egypt. Egyptian culture and traditions are very particular and provide a unique experience for each traveler. In Egypt, it is common to find larger families and see three generations living under one roof. Onto food. Egyptian food is warming for the heart and flavor, and seasoning isn't something they're afraid of. Some popular dishes you may see are Koshari, Ful Medames, Lintels, Molokhia, and Aish Baladi (bread). Tea and coffee are also essential parts of their lives. Music is highly ingrained in their culture as well. They sure do love to celebrate. Traditional music dates back to 3100 BCE. In Egypt...

Music and Family

There is only so much I can say about music before you all tune out. SOOOO I decided to interview my mom's good friend. My sister and I call him Uncle D. Even though we aren't technically related, he is still family to us. I chose to interview him because he enjoys talking, and second. After all, I saw it as an opportunity to learn more about him and his upbringing.  ╔══ ❀•°❀°•❀ ══╗  ╔══ ❀•°❀°•❀ ══╗ Here is a little backstory of his childhood. As a kid, rap,  hip-hop , and blues music were the most popular, and were thought of as "day-to-day music" for him. On a rainy day, it would be more of gospel or Jazz music. He mentioned that his mom would play songs by Whitney Houston, especially her song called Nobody Loves Me Like You Do. She would also listen to  Commodore Ominous and Tina Turner. Music and Memory

When it comes to music, I am so very in tune with all the different styles and genres. From my last blog, I mentioned how I wasn't a fan of metal music. I had a lovely comment from Emily that included some song suggestions for some metal music. I will say I did hate the genre a little less. šŸ˜ °。°。°。°。°。°。 °。°。°。°。°。°。 °。°。°。°。°。°。 As I said in my previous blog, I grew up in the Lake Wylie/Clover/Rock Hill area. Hermon Presbyterian Church is the name of my church. Although my church is labeled as a Presbyterian church, I don't believe we act like one, haha. At my church, we (the choir) sing this one song called Total Praise by Richard Smallwood. When I hear this song, my soul instantly rises. I don't have nooo idea why. Growing up, this was one of those songs that I used to play on repeat. I wish I could tell you more about this song, bu t I truly don't know how to put how I feel about this song into words. Music and Me

Hi!! My name is Jennelle AshaĆ© Horton, and I am an undergraduate Music and Dance double Major at Converse University, and also a part of the Acrobatics and Tumbling team. Music and the arts have been in my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up in Rock Hill/Clover/Lake Wylie area. As a child, I sang in church, performed in a group called the Clover Choristers, and played the violin.  In middle school, I started playing the flute and ukulele. I would take private lessons for the flute because those fingerings would always trip me up. In the summers, my sister JenaĆ© and I would participate in a program called ST-ARTS (Special Talent in the Arts) at Withrop University. This program was a great outlet for young kids like us, who were passionate about the arts.
